P1/3 "Nopakao" one of our legend in handbag recoloring work - The concept
Why this handbag leather paint is so colorful? (Part 1/3)
Here is the story behind it. One of our clients is a jeweler, in Thai, we believe in “NOPAKAO” which means “9 lucky gems”. She has many businesses to manage. One of her businesses is Pre-owned Balenciaga selling. She plans to open the Balenciaga leather restoration shop; the service will only focus on this designer brand’s recoloring. Then she tries to find a subcontractor to help her when the leather recoloring work like this is overloaded. The handbag was sent to someone who charges quite cheap as low as quality of leather paint was used. Unfortunately, the result came back sadly. She ran to us for help to rescue the handbag. Regarding the first service store changed the color to black because they lacking the mixing skill.
Then with us, she would like to recolor her handbag to a special concept called “NOPAKAO”
As I tell you earlier, “NOPAKAO” means “9 Lucky gems”. Our Thai believed that who owned all of them is will lucky as the meaning of each;
Ruby (Red) means Success
Emerald (Green) means Brave
Topaz (Yellow) means Charming
Garnet (Dark Red) means Healthy
Sapphire (Blue) means Mercy
Moonstone (Milky white) means Peaceful
Zircon (Light Blue) means Victory
Chrysoberyl (Dark Orange) means God Bless
The handbag was recoloring in 9+1 = 10 Colors “+1” is Silver means Demons/Curse protection
Let start!
Before getting started we need to remove the handle ropes to be easier when recoloring the handles.
First Procedure, preparing the surface;
We need to clean the existing color which is one of the hard parts of overall work. When we clean with BT.Coating Remover, it seems that never be the end. The black color melting and melting took 3 days to clean them off as normal in this stage take 1-2 hrs.
2nd is mixing to prepare the color
This is one of the hardest cases in 15 years of experience because there are so many colors on her handbag. As you can see are 10 Colors. However, we need to mix 20 Colors because one of each needs 2 different types of leather paint. 10 colors for BT.Standard Color which is covers the leather surface, while the other 10 colors are BT.Standard Edging Color that covers the edge of each one.
Actually, we mix more than 20 colors because we have to do make the sample pieces of color for color proof. Some color is passed at the first mix but some need to adjust to match with her concept.
3rd In this stage we start recoloring the handbag piece by piece as the normal leather recoloring procedures.
It seems to be okay but in fact, it is harder than we think. Let continue with the following article.
