Basic of leather paint mixing for handbag recoloring
Let go back a bit for “Color Theory” as our article about “Color Mixing tips for handbag recolor” which is about mixing the leather paint for handbag restoration and so many people asking “how to adjust the shade of leather paint correctly” Then let go back to the basic a little bit.
When we were young the art class will be taught us about color mixing or “Color Theory”
Primary color = Red, Blue, Yellow to change the tone
Middle color = Black & White to adjust the darkness and the brightness which is a color shade (darker) & color tint (brighter).
Red + Blue = Purple or Violet
Red + Yellow = Orange
Blue + Yellow = Green
The opposite side in the color wheel is called the Contrast color
Green vs Red
Violet vs Yellow
Blue = Orange
The next three colors in order in the color wheel call Harmony color (Similar color)
For example: blue, light blue, indigo is harmonious color
Therefore, when we would like to mix the pink, we might begin with white and red then we will get a kind of pink but not satisfying then just step back and see what pink that we want. We might think this is too red then we will add white, however, if it is too red, in this case, we got 2 choices to add 1 is white the other is green because green or the contrast color will give a smoother effect than white. Sometimes white will give a milky effect with we don’t want it like that then let try the opposite color!
Let see another case, if we begin with premix like BT.Standard Brand Color the color already mix to get very close to the designer brand handbags, if we would like to change the whole piece of leather that is fine but if we would like to touch up only the corner, the color should be matched with the remaining surrounding color and each handbag will have slightly different color by the usage or the age of the handbag. Therefore, we need to test and see what is lacking in the color.
For example: If the color lacking black and red, you might choose a brown color to be a faster option because normally brown is made from black + red. In another case, if the color is too pink and will need to add white, black, and yellow then you can choose ivory to add in pick to be faster because ivory is made from white, black, and yellow mainly.
I Hope is clearer for the color mixing tips for handbag recoloring.
